Fruity, zingy and floral, get ready for the mouth-watering Kenyan delight that is Tegu. Forming part of The Tekangu Farmers' Cooperative Society (FCS), The Tegu Factory (washing station) sits in Nyeri in Central Kenya and collects cherries from about 1200 smallholders. A Kikuyu name meaning "low place", Tegu is named after the local river from which water is used to process and ferment the coffee. The water is recycled and used again for pulping multiple times during the day to reduce the factory's water consumption. Together with the neighbouring region, Kirinyaga, Nyeri lies on the slopes of Mount Kenya. Areas known for their intense, complex, and flavour-dense coffees, we find Tegu particularly intriguing for its atypical profile.
